Commissions

You may commission me to create a specific painting. Commissions are available for all types of work--portraits, fly fishing scenes and landscapes. Since I am known for capturing the personality and likeness of my subjects, I am primarily commissioned for portrait work.

Pricing
As of September, 2009, commission prices for watercolor portraits start at $200. Oil paintings range from $425 to $1200 for single subject portraits. Prices vary based on size and subject. Prices do not include framing. I will assist in frame selection in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Schedule
Typical turn-around time following subject selection is 1-2 months for oils, 2-3 weeks for watercolors. Oil commissions are paid in three parts: 25% to start, 25% upon sketch and composition approval by the client, and 50% upon completion for oils. Watercolors are 50% upon signing, 50% upon completion.

Steps to a commission:
(specific to oil paintings)

Step 1
The subject matter and/or photograph will be discussed. If painting from a photograph, we will work together to determine if an adequate photo exists or, alternatively, how to obtain an adequate photo. We will also discuss canvas size, where it would hang, and other details to create a successful painting. A straight-forward contract is signed with a 25% down-payment to get the painting on my schedule and begin work.

Step 2
A sketch is completed on the canvas and is reviewed by the client. If the layout is acceptable, work begins--an additional 25% is due at this time.

Step 3
Once the painting is completed, final payment is made and delivery of the painting is arranged. If desired, I will assist in frame selection in Charlottesville, VA.
